It’s the dream of every engineering aspirant in India to secure a seat in one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). To realize this dream, students need to crack the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), which is counted among the toughest entrance exams in the world. JEE is conducted in two parts – JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced). Among more than 10 lakh candidates who appear for JEE (Main) every year, only around 2 lakh candidates qualify for JEE (Advanced). A small percentage of these candidates finally make it to the prestigious IITs.
The more you look into the numbers, the more you are likely to feel that the odds are against you. However, if you are an engineering aspirant, you need to realize that cracking the JEE exam is not as tough as it looks on paper. All you need is the right approach and strategy. Here are some useful tips for those who are preparing for IIT JEE 2019 exam –
Get familiar with the latest changes
HRD ministry has announced several changes in JEE exam this year. It will now be conducted twice a year (in January and April) in multiple sessions. CBSE will no longer be the conducting body of JEE (Main). Instead, the exam will be conducted by the newly-constituted National Testing Agency (NTA). JEE Main 2019 will only be conducted in online mode.
Know the exam pattern
Although, no changes have been announced as far as the JEE syllabus and exam pattern are concerned, familiarizing yourself with the pattern of the exam is the foremost thing to do. Number of sections, duration of the exam, number of questions, and marking scheme are some of the things that you must be completely familiar with.
Get familiar with computer-based mode
As Paper 1 (completely) and Paper 2 (partly) of JEE Main 2019 will be conducted in online mode, it is important for you to gain familiarity with the way these tests are conducted. Appearing for online mock tests is one of the best ways to get used to answering questions on screen. This is all the more important for students from rural areas who have not had sufficient exposure to computers. NTA has also set up computer centres where students can take online mock tests.
Practice sample papers and mock tests
Practicing sample papers, previous years’ question papers and mock tests is an essential part of IIT JEE preparation. It’s an effective way to improve speed, enhance time management skills, and understand the types of questions asked in the exam. Most importantly, it helps you understand your current level of preparation and areas where you need to improve.
Stay motivated
While practice and hardwork are important, ultimately, it all boils down to how motivated you are. Going to the exam centre with a positive mindset can significantly improve your performance. Setting daily goals and rewarding yourself when you achieve your goals is a great way to keep your motivation level high during the preparation stage.
